Van Hecke joined Brighton from NAC Breda in 2020 and made his breakthrough in the first team two years later. He went on to play 36 Premier League games for the Seagulls in the recent season, helping the team qualify for the Conference League. In total, Van Hecke made 131 appearances for Brighton.

Van Hecke is currently representing the Netherlands at the World Cup, where he will be joined by fellow Tottenham defender Micky van de Ven. Brighton, meanwhile, is interested in signing 19-year-old Tottenham centre-back Luka Vuskovic, who has had two bids rejected by the club.
