The transfer makes Van Hecke the fifth-most expensive signing in Tottenham's history, behind Xavi Simons, Dominic Solanke, Mohammed Kudus, and Tanguy Ndombele. He will also become the sixth-most expensive Dutch player of all time, and Brighton's fourth player to be sold for at least €60 million.
Jan Paul van Hecke, 25, joined Brighton from NAC Breda in 2020 for €2 million. He has since played for sc Heerenveen and Blackburn Rovers on loan. Van Hecke has made his mark on the Brighton team and has also represented the Netherlands, making his senior debut in 2024 and earning 14 caps so far.
Van Hecke's uncle, Jan Poortvliet, was a member of the Netherlands team that reached the 1978 World Cup final. Van Hecke himself has already started his World Cup campaign, playing in the 2-2 draw against Japan on June 14th.
