FIFA investigated claims that World Cup official Shaun Evans made a white supremacy gesture during the tournament. The gesture, which involves the thumb and forefinger touching in a circle with the other fingers outstretched, has been associated with hate groups and was designated a hate symbol by a US-based organization. However, FIFA found no evidence of a breach of their disciplinary code. Evans denied making the gesture, stating that it was misinterpreted. He said he was holding a pen between his fingers, which was not visible in earlier images. Evans expressed regret for the misunderstanding and emphasized that he did not knowingly make the gesture.

Despite the controversy, Evans will continue his role as a video review analyst for the rest of the tournament. He will work alongside 30 other officials selected by FIFA to support the World Cup being held in the United States, Canada, and Mexico.

Evans stressed that officiating at the World Cup is the greatest honor of his career and he looks forward to continuing his work with his colleagues.
