After the game, Xabi Alonso praised his team's performance, saying, "We worked on our midfielders' runs, but we didn't specifically focus on it during the game. Instead, we talked about it during the water break and encouraged them to use their quality and finishing skills. This helped us gain an advantage, especially since we were down to ten men from the seventh minute."
He also commended the team's discipline and sacrifice, saying, "The team showed great control and patience, knowing how to manage the game without the ball. We knew that if we could recover the ball, we could get out and create scoring opportunities, which is exactly what happened. Going 3-0 up was crucial as it allowed us to conserve energy and not have to push too hard if we conceded, which unfortunately happened afterwards."
Xabi Alonso was also pleased with the team's defensive performance, saying, "We had to defend with a player fewer in a low block and it's essential to know how to suffer and be humble, finding the right moment to respond. The defensive line did an excellent job in holding the area, and we had good periods of possession."
He added, "We took a lot of positives from the game, especially the three points. We weren't able to showcase what we've been working on, but we had to adapt to the game by staying balanced and maintaining possession so that the players felt comfortable."
When asked about Fede Valverde, Xabi Alonso said, "I haven't seen many players with his physical ability. He reminds me of Steven Gerrard. He can play anywhere and I'm very happy to be coaching him. Every coach would like to have a Valverde in their team. He made up for the penalty the other day and showed his fighting spirit in the celebration."
