Akanji joined Inter in the final days of the summer transfer window, signing a one-year loan deal with an option to buy for €15 million.
According to reports, Akanji has already impressed Inter's management, making it likely that they will exercise the permanent transfer option.
The option becomes mandatory if Akanji plays in at least 50% of Inter's games this season, but the club is willing to buy him out even if he doesn't meet that requirement.
Inter's management, led by Piero Ausilio, had previously negotiated a deal with Borussia Dortmund for Akanji's transfer, but Manchester City intervened three years ago.
