At their funeral, Villas-Boas shared that the club was working with agent Jorge Mendes to re-sign Diogo Jota. However, this will no longer be possible due to Jota's untimely passing.

The planned return was set for 2026-27, and the club had already discussed this possibility with Diogo Jota. Villas-Boas had previously communicated this to Jota through Mendes at his wedding, and it was a dream for many Porto fans.

AVB also paid tribute to Diogo Jota, describing him as a "silent hero" who was loved by the club and its fans. He appreciated Jota's dedication both on and off the pitch.

Furthermore, Villas-Boas mentioned that Jota was a partner of the club's Esports team and someone who would be remembered fondly, just like his brother.

Regarding his membership status, Villas-Boas said that Jota was not a member of the club, but he became one posthumously. The club also symbolically returned Andre Silva's membership fees to his family.

He expressed condolences to Jota's teammates from Liverpool, Wolverhampton, Gondomar, and Penafiel, who also lost a close friend.
