Diogo Jota, a former player, and his brother André Silva, who also played for Porto, tragically lost their lives in a car accident in Spain last week.
At the funeral, Villas-Boas revealed that the club had been working with Diogo's agent, Jorge Mendes, to bring him back to FC Porto as early as 2026-27.
Unfortunately, this plan will not come to fruition. Villas-Boas had previously informed Diogo about the possibility through Mendes at his wedding, and it was a dream for many Porto fans.
AVB also paid tribute to Diogo's dedication to the club and his fans, stating that he was a silent hero who embodied the values of FC Porto both on and off the pitch.
Diogo was a valued partner of the club's Esports team, and his legacy will be remembered fondly, just like his brother.
Regarding FC Porto membership, Villas-Boas explained that Diogo had become a member in spirit, and the club had symbolically returned André Silva's membership fees to his family.
The club intended to leave the two membership cards at the funeral as a gesture of respect and solidarity with the families of Diogo and André.
AVB extended condolences to Diogo's teammates from Liverpool, Wolverhampton, and other clubs, as well as to the community of Penafiel, who also lost a great friend.
