Everton's best chances in the first half came from James Garner's inswinging corners. The first corner flicked off Alex Scott's head and hit the crossbar, and then Thierno Barry almost scored from a set-piece, but the ball was kept out by Djordje Petrovic and the post.
In the dying minutes of the half, Junior Kroupi thought he had scored for Bournemouth, but the goal was ruled out for offside. Replays showed the striker had strayed offside to meet Amine Adli's pass.
