Previously, President Ruto had promised Harambee Stars players Ksh1 million for every win and Ksh500,000 for a draw. The team also stood to earn Sh60 million for reaching the quarter-finals, Sh70 million for making it to the semi-finals, and a staggering Sh600 million if they clinched the title.
While visiting the team at their hotel, President Ruto confirmed the revised figures and said that if they win against Zambia, every player will pocket Ksh2.5 million. He also added that if they reach the quarters, he will give them a two-bedroomed affordable housing unit in a location of their choice, in addition to the Ksh1 million winning bonus.
Ruto emphasized the importance of unity and said that Harambee Stars' recent results at the CHAN are a proof of what unity can achieve for any nation. He encouraged the players to believe in themselves and work together to achieve their goals.
The statement win against Morocco, following a 1-0 victory over DR Congo and a 1-1 draw with Angola, has lifted Kenya to seven points from three games and left them within touching distance of a historic quarter-final berth on their tournament debut.
Kenya's victory against Morocco was among the biggest shocks in CHAN history, halting Morocco's 14-match unbeaten CHAN run. Victory over Zambia in their final group game would see them top the group; even a draw could be enough to progress.
