Despite their impressive performance, former Chelsea captain John Terry believes the team needs more experience to win the Premier League title. In an interview, he noted that the team lacks older heads to guide them to success.
"We have a really good young squad," Terry said. "I know the saying, you can't win anything with young players; you need a bit of experience. I think we just need a little bit of experience, whether that's in goal or whether that's an old centre-back to guide the players a little bit on the pitch."
Terry also acknowledged that Chelsea's main rivals, Manchester City and Liverpool, are currently too strong to beat. However, he expressed optimism that the team could start the new season strongly, particularly if they can build on their recent successes.
Earlier this year, Terry had stated that Chelsea were at least "a couple of years" away from being genuine title contenders. He reiterated his thoughts, saying, "I think we're a couple of years off, I really do. I look at Man City, Liverpool - they're stronger. Arsenal have been consistent."
Terry also spoke about the issue of fixture congestion, which has been affecting Chelsea and other teams in the Premier League. He noted that while Manchester City are the best at managing their schedule, other teams are struggling to keep up.
Despite the challenges, Terry remains positive about Chelsea's future. He believes that the team's young players have gained valuable experience from their recent campaigns and that the signing of new players will be crucial in the next season.
