An agreement has been reached between Edwards and Wolves, which will run until 2028.
The Premier League club will pay around £2m to Boro in compensation for Edwards' services.
The delays in the announcement are reportedly due to Edwards' need to assemble a new team of coaches and staff.
Edwards, a former Wolves defender and academy coach, will take over from Vitor Pereira, who was let go by the club last week.
